Job summary

Huntsville Hospital seeks a Medical Laboratory Technician to conduct routine blood tests and related studies, following CAP-standard protocols. You will prepare specimens, operate instruments, perform QC, and ensure timely reporting of results while maintaining safety and training updates.

Preferred candidates hold an Associate degree or approved MLT program, with current certification or eligibility by ASCP, AMT, NCA, or AAB. Flexibility for irregular hours is expected.

Qualifications

• Associate Degree in the sciences is preferred; approved medical laboratory technician training program or equivalent.
• Certified or eligible as a medical laboratory technician by the ASCP, AMT, NCA, AAB.
• Ability to work in a stressful environment.
• Ability to remember multiple procedures and policies.
• Willingness to work irregular hours with varying assignments.
• Understanding of safe work practices.

Responsibilities

• Provide quality specimens for testing, ensuring correct patient identification, proper tubes, filling correctly, and documentation of all performance improvement forms/logs.
• Perform maintenance and updates on instruments and be familiar with all instrument operations and limitations.
• Assure accurate results by performing quality control and instrument troubleshooting procedures.
• Perform testing in a timely manner to include stat, urgent and routine turnaround time requirements; validate all specimen results prior to reporting.
• Assume departmental responsibilities to ensure CAP standards are maintained.
• Follows safety standards and uses safe work practices.
• Assist in continuing education and procedure updates
