Job summary

The University of Iowa Health Care – Iowa River Landing in Coralville, IA is seeking a Medical Laboratory Technician to perform waived and moderately complex testing and to provide accurate test results for diagnosis and treatment. You will work under supervision alongside MLS/Scientists, handling diverse specimens and ensuring quality and regulatory compliance.

Minimum eligibility includes a bachelor’s degree in a relevant field or MLT credential (ASCP/NCA) with strong communication skills.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in chemical/biological/clinical laboratory science or medical technology.

Responsibilities

• Performs quantitative and qualitative analysis for waived and moderately complex testing on laboratory specimens.
• Provides information to health care provider regarding test methodology and interpretation.
• Investigates quality assurance issues and implements corrective action.
• Calibrates, maintains, and troubleshoots laboratory instrumentation.
• Seeks technical direction from MLS for instrumentation problems.
• Assists in reagent comparisons and cost-reduction recommendations.
• Participates in equipment evaluation and procurement recommendations.
• Maintains inventory and orders supplies.
• Ensures compliance with regulatory and accreditation requirements.
• Documents and reviews daily quality control and reports variances.
• Participates in QA program and identifies improvement opportunities.
• Assists with writing and revising laboratory procedures per NCCLS guidelines.
• Performs additional tasks and special projects.
