Job summary

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in chemical, biological, clinical laboratory science, or medical technology
• Clinical laboratory experience 6–12 months
• MLS/MT certification required (ASCP or HEW)
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
• MLS certification equivalent recognized by ASCP or NCA

Responsibilities

• Perform highly complex quantitative and qualitative analysis on clinical and research specimens.
• Provide technical direction on testing complexity and analysis of biological specimens.
• Evaluate laboratory test results and communicate methodology and interpretation to health care providers.
• Provide technical assistance and training to staff on quality assurance issues.
• Mentor staff when investigating and initiating corrective action for quality assurance issues.
• Perform statistical analysis of quality control data and initiate corrective action based on results.
• Report and document variances according to regulatory guidelines.
• Operate, calibrate, maintain and troubleshoot laboratory instrumentation; evaluate equipment and recommend acquisitions.
• Evaluate reagent comparisons and recommend cost-saving improvements.
• Ensure compliance with regulatory and accreditation requirements (JCAHO, CAP, FDA, AABB).
• Write and revise laboratory procedures according to NCLLS guidelines.
• Train new staff and health care professionals on test techniques and interpretation.
• Provide performance feedback and participate in evaluations.
• Maintain effective working relationships with faculty, staff, students and the public.
