Job summary

Swain Community Hospital, part of Lifepoint Health, is hiring a Medical Lab Technician to join our dedicated laboratory team. The MLT will perform chemical, bacteriological, serological and microscopic tests, maintain accurate records, and ensure quality control programs.

The role also includes phlebotomy duties and specimen handling in a busy hospital setting. Ideal candidates have an associate’s degree in science and MLT certification (ASCP or AMT) preferred, with life support certifications

Qualifications

• Associate's degree in science required.
• MLT certification through ASCP or AMT preferred.
• Basic Life Support within 30 days of hire; ACLS/PALS within six months.

Responsibilities

• Performs chemical, bacteriological, serological and microscopic procedures.
• Maintains records of procedures, results and quality control.
• Investigates out-of-control runs and implements remedial action.
• Reviews laboratory reports for extraordinary results or clerical errors.
• Maintains equipment and logs preventive maintenance.
• Performs secretarial, phlebotomy and specimen reception duties.

Join our dedicated Laboratory team at Swain Community, a 48-bed, fully-accredited hospital serving the residents of Swain and Graham counties.

How you'll contribute

A Medical Lab Tech who excels in this role:

Performs chemical, bacteriological, serological and microscopic procedures for which competency has been verified.

Maintains in a timely manner, records of procedure performance, patient results, and quality control.

Follows defined protocol for investigating out-of-control runs and implements necessary remedial action.

Reviews relevant laboratory reports for extraordinary results and clerical errors before they are reported to the patient's medical record.

Maintains equipment in accordance with defined policies and protocols and logs preventive and remedial maintenance of equipment.

Continuously helps to monitor job performance of peers or other employees.

Performs secretarial, phlebotomy and specimen reception duties.

What we're looking for

Applicants should have an associate's degree in science and an MLT certification through ASCP or AMT is preferred. Additional requirements include:

• Basic Life Support certification is required within 30 days of hire.
• ACLS and PALS are required within six months of hire.
• One year of experience preferred
• ASLS certification preferred
