Job summary

Swain Community Hospital - A Duke Lifepoint Hospital in Bryson City, NC, seeks a Medical Lab Tech to join our Lab team on a PRN basis with weekend rotations. The 48-bed, fully accredited hospital serves Swain and Graham counties.

The MLT performs chemistry, bacteriology, serology and microscopy tests, maintains records and quality control, and assists with phlebotomy and specimen reception. BLS within 30 days; ACLS/PALS within six months; 1 year experience preferred.

Qualifications

• Associate's degree in science is required.
• MLT certification through ASCP or AMT preferred.
• BLS certification required within 30 days of hire.
• ACLS and PALS required within six months of hire.
• One year of experience preferred.
• ASLS certification preferred.

Responsibilities

• Performs chemical, bacteriological, serological and microscopic procedures with verified competency.
• Maintains records of procedure performance, patient results and quality control.
• Follows protocol for investigating out-of-control runs and takes remedial action.
• Reviews laboratory reports for extraordinary results and clerical errors before reporting.
• Maintains equipment per policies and logs maintenance.
• Supports peers and staff in job performance improvement.
• Performs secretarial, phlebotomy and specimen reception duties.

How You'll Contribute

A Medical Lab Tech who excels in this role:

• Performs chemical, bacteriological, serological and microscopic procedures for which competency has been verified.
• Maintains in a timely manner, records of procedure performance, patient results, and quality control.
• Follows defined protocol for investigating out-of-control runs and implements necessary remedial action.
• Reviews relevant laboratory reports for extraordinary results and clerical errors before they are reported to the patient's medical record.
• Maintains equipment in accordance with defined policies and protocols and logs preventive and remedial maintenance of equipment.
• Continuously helps to monitor job performance of peers or other employees.
• Performs secretarial, phlebotomy and specimen reception duties.

What We're Looking For

Applicants should have an associate's degree in science and an MLT certification through ASCP or AMT is preferred. Additional requirements include:

• Basic Life Support certification is required within 30 days of hire.
• ACL S and PALS are required within six months of hire.
• One year of experience preferred
• ASLS certification preferred
