Job summary

Swain Community Hospital, part of Lifepoint Health, seeks a Medical Lab Tech (MLT) for PRN work with weekend rotation in Bryson City, NC. You will conduct chemical, bacteriological, serological and microscopic testing with validated competency and timely reporting, while upholding quality control.

Ideal candidates hold an associate degree in science and an MLT certification (ASCP or AMT preferred); BLS within 30 days, ACLS/PALS within six months, and about one year of experience are preferred.

Responsibilities

• Performs chemical, bacteriological, serological and microscopic testing with verified competency.
• Maintains timely records of procedures, results and quality control.
• Follows protocol for investigating out-of-control runs and remedial action.
• Reviews laboratory reports for extraordinary results and clerical errors.
• Maintains equipment and logs preventive/remedial maintenance.
• Monitors job performance of peers or other staff.
• Performs secretarial, phlebotomy and specimen reception duties.

How you'll contribute

A Medical Lab Tech who excels in this role:

Performs chemical, bacteriological, serological and microscopic procedures for which competency has been verified.

Maintains in a timely manner, records of procedure performance, patient results, and quality control.

Follows defined protocol for investigating out-of-control runs and implements necessary remedial action.

Reviews relevant laboratory reports for extraordinary results and clerical errors before they are reported to the patient's medical record.

Maintains equipment in accordance with defined policies and protocols and logs preventive and remedial maintenance of equipment.

Continuously helps to monitor job performance of peers or other employees.

Performs secretarial, phlebotomy and specimen reception duties.

What we're looking for

Applicants should have an associate's degree in science and an MLT certification through ASCP or AMT is preferred. Additional requirements include:

• Basic Life Support certification is required within 30 days of hire.
• ACLS and PALS are required within six months of hire.
• One year of experience preferred
• ASLS certification preferred
