Job summary

Baptist Health System is seeking a Medical Laboratory Technician to perform testing and reporting across a broad range of specimens for patients from neonates to geriatric. The role includes phlebotomy, instrumentation maintenance, and adherence to quality controls.

The successful candidate will typically have an Associate degree in MLT or equivalent, with 0–2 years of experience and a preference for certification eligibility.

Qualifications

• Associate degree or equivalent in Medical Laboratory Technology as required by CLIA high complexity testing.
• 0-2 years of experience as a medical laboratory technician or similar setting.

Responsibilities

Job Summary

The Medical Laboratory Technician tests all types of laboratory specimens for all age groups from neonates to geriatric patients; reviews and reports lab results; performs operational duties, maintenance and advanced troubleshooting of laboratory instrumentation and equipment. Other related duties as assigned.

Responsibilities

General Functions:

• Processes and tests specimens for clinical studies
• Reviews test results and applies the correct clinical interpretation of that data
• Reports lab results accurately and responsively, to include use of laboratory information system
• Processes blood and other body fluids.
• Performs operation and maintenance of laboratory instrumentation and equipment to include advanced troubleshooting.
• Performs venous and capillary phlebotomy and ensures specimen integrity

Department/Business Unit Functions:

• Assists in creating procedures
• Assists in teaching employees or students
• Relays, orders, takes inventory and stocks supplies
• Utilizes resources efficiently and effectively

Qualifications

MINIMUM EDUCATION: Associate degree from an approved college or university and/or graduate of an accredited school of medical laboratory technicians, or equivalent such as military training as defined by 42 CFR 493.1489. The above meets required criteria as defined by CLIA regulations for High Complexity testing (42 CFR 493.1489, Jan. 24, 2003

MINIMUM EXPERIENCE: 0-2 years as a medical laboratory technician.

PREFERRED CERTIFICATIONS/LICENSURE: Certified (registered) or registry-eligible in accordance with an approved certifying agency, e.g. ASCP, HHS, AMT. Registry eligible should obtain certification within 1 year from date of hire. Once certified, no annual renewals are required.
