Job summary

Baptist Medical Center Hospital is seeking a Medical Laboratory Scientist to provide state-of-the-art laboratory testing and phlebotomy from neonates to geriatric patients, ensuring patient safety.

You will review results, interpret data, and report findings using a laboratory information system while maintaining quality and efficiency in a busy clinical setting.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree from an approved college or university in medical technology or equivalent.
• 6 months to 1 year Medical Lab Scientist experience preferred in acute care facilities.
• Certification/licensure as ASCP/HHS/AMT or registry-eligible with certification within 1 year.

Responsibilities

• Processes and tests blood and other body fluid specimens for clinical laboratory.
• Reviews test results and applies correct clinical interpretation.
• Reports lab results accurately and uses a Laboratory Information System.
• Operates and maintains laboratory instrumentation and equipment.
• Performs phlebotomy and ensures specimen integrity.

Job Summary

The Medical Laboratory Scientist provides state of the art laboratory specimen testing, including phlebotomy, from neonates to geriatric patients ensuring patient safety.

Responsibilities

General Functions:

• Processes and tests blood and other body fluid specimens for clinical laboratory
• Reviews test results and applies the correct clinical interpretation of that data
• Reports lab results accurately and responsively, to include use of a laboratory information system
• Performs operation, maintenance and advanced troubleshooting of laboratory instrumentation and equipment
• Performs venous and capillary phlebotomy and ensures specimen integrity
• Performs basic clerical functions
• Acts as a resource person for providing information and problem solving for the Medical Technicians, Phlebotomists and other laboratory personnel
• Assists with R&D projects as required
• Trains employees and students
• Relays orders, take inventory and stocks supplies
• Utilizes resources efficiently and effectively
• Maintains safe environment
• Addresses patient population-specific needs

Qualifications

MINIMUM EDUCATION: Bachelor’s Degree from an approved college or university and/or graduate of an accredited school of medical technology, or equivalent such as military training as defined by 42 CFR 493.1489. Personnel who, prior to 2/28/92 have qualified at the Medical Technologist level by achieving a satisfactory grade on a HHS examination. The above meets required criteria as defined by CLIA regulations for High Complexity testing (42 CFR 493.1489, Jan. 24, 2003).

PREFERRED EXPERIENCE: 6 months to 1 year Medical Lab Scientist experience in acute care facility

PREFERRED CERTIFICATIONS/LICENSURE: Certified (registered) or registry-eligible in accordance with an approved certifying agency, e.g. ASCP, HHS, AMT. Registry eligible should obtain certification within 1 year from date of hire. Once certified, no annual renewals are required.
