Medical Lab Scientist / Medical Lab Technician - Laboratory

Job Details

Christie Clinic's Laboratory department is seeking a full-time Medical Lab Scientist or Medical Lab Technician, working Monday-Friday from 9:00 am to 6:00 pm at the University clinic. The position may require travel to other Champaign locations as needed.

Responsibilities

• Perform chemical analysis of blood and other body fluids.
• Mount, stain, and examine smears for bacteria under a microscope.
• Conduct hematological examinations, including complete blood counts and WBC differential.
• Perform various blood tests as ordered for patient care.
• Conduct bacteriological tests and quality control checks.
• Prepare slides, culture media, reagents, stains, and chemical solutions.
• Maintain inventory, clean equipment, and dispose of materials properly.
• Log patient specimens, enter test results, and maintain laboratory procedures.
• Participate in professional development and maintain affiliations.
• Assist during the Coordinator’s absence and perform related duties as required.

Qualifications

• Certification as Medical Lab Scientist by ASCP or AMT is required.
• Bachelor’s degree in science, Chemical, Physical, Biological, Clinical Laboratory Science, or Medical Technology.
• New graduates must provide transcripts within 12 weeks of hire.

Physical and Working Conditions

Requires sitting, standing, walking, bending, lifting up to 25 pounds, and visual acuity. Work is performed in a laboratory environment with exposure to communicable diseases and toxic substances, possibly requiring irregular hours.

Compensation and Benefits

The pay range is $28.06 - $38.58 per hour for Medical Lab Scientists and $24.86 - $34.18 per hour for Medical Lab Technicians. Benefits include paid time off, flexible spending accounts, 401k, health, dental, vision insurance, and more.
