UPMC Hillman Cancer Center has an exciting opportunity for a full-time Medical Lab Scientist (Medical Technologist) or Medical Lab Technician to support our Uniontown medical oncology office. This patient-facing role allows you to use your phlebotomy and laboratory skills to make a meaningful difference in the lives of cancer patients. The position works Monday-Friday during daylight hours — no evenings, weekends, or holidays are required!

Applicants will be placed in the appropriate job title & salary based on their experience and education.

• Medical Lab Technician salaries start at $21.48 hourly with a sign-on bonus of $10,000!
• Medical Lab Scientist salaries start at $26.97 hourly with a sign-on bonus of $15,000!

Responsibilities:

• Interact with laboratory customers courteously and professionally; respond to inquiries promptly. Maintain pleasant communication internally and externally.
• Follow laboratory and hospital policies regarding procedures, quality control, safety, and compliance. Collect and process specimens properly, including phlebotomy as required, ensuring sample stability and appropriateness. Perform analytical procedures accurately and efficiently.
• Recognize abnormal, critical, or unacceptable test results and follow protocols for follow-up. Identify factors affecting test results and initiate corrective actions. Troubleshoot instrumentation, methodology, and specimen issues as per protocols.
• Operate and maintain laboratory equipment within training scope, perform quality control, preventive maintenance, calibration, and minor repairs. Use reagents and supplies efficiently and monitor inventory.
• Maintain knowledge of techniques, principles, and instruments, understanding their interrelationships and physiological impacts on test results.
• Assist with test development, methodology evaluation, and equipment selection and implementation.
• Perform High Complexity Testing as defined by PA DOH independently.
• Temporarily assume first-line supervision of the section/department as delegated.
• Train and orient new staff, students, and residents as applicable and assigned.
