Summary
National Power is accepting applications to fill a Generator Service Technician opening in our Akron, OH, market. Under the general direction of and reporting to the Telecom Service Manager, the Generator Service Technician is responsible for the maintenance and repair of generator sets and other electrical equipment.
Essential Duties And Responsibilities
Core duties and responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
- Perform maintenance and repair on generators and parallel systems ranging from 5-5000kw, including troubleshooting and repair of Automatic Transfer Switches, performing preventative maintenance, troubleshooting AC and DC circuits, replacing components, performing warranty work, and start-up/commissioning of new generators.
- Perform troubleshooting and repair of diesel or gaseous engines, including ignition, injection systems, and valve adjustments.
- Conduct load bank testing to ensure generators operate correctly and meet code requirements.
- Assist other technicians with large or complex troubleshooting tasks.
Education And Experience
- HS Diploma required; Associate degree in electrical/mechanical field preferred.
- Current Generac Power Systems certification preferred.
- Experience as US Air Force Electrical Power Production Specialist, US Navy Electrician’s Mate, or similar field service technician preferred.
Skills And Other Qualifications
- Excellent communication skills for reports and recommendations.
- Ability to manage time and travel effectively.
- Valid driver’s license and good driving record; ability to travel and stay overnight as needed.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office and Adobe software.
- Ability to work from home, maintain vehicle and inventory, and secure company property.
- Strong customer service and problem-solving skills, especially in emergencies.
- Willingness to attend training courses as required.
- Commitment to quality and safety, with attention to detail.
Work Conditions and Physical Demands
- Work outdoors in various weather conditions.
- Physical ability to lift up to 75 lbs, work at heights, and enter confined spaces.
Compensation
- Competitive pay based on experience and certifications, with overtime paid at 1.5x.
- Paid holidays, accrued vacation, sick and personal days.

- Must pass DOT physical.
- This is a remote position requiring work from home.
