Position Overview

Fort Sanders Regional Medical Center is an award-winning, accredited facility with 468 beds, serving as a comprehensive stroke center and leader in advanced surgical technologies. The laboratory performs over 2 million tests annually, handling complex patient cases and a wide array of testing modalities, including microbiology, blood bank, infectious diseases, and specialty chemistry.

Responsibilities
  1. Perform preparatory functions such as centrifuging, specimen pouring, and archiving.
  2. Check specimens for clots and perform pipetting and staining techniques.
  3. Prepare specimens for various tests including microbiology, pathology, PCR, and viral cultures.
  4. Manage reagent inventory and perform quality checks.
  5. Follow laboratory procedures, document corrective actions, and troubleshoot equipment.
  6. Utilize Laboratory Information System (LIS) for patient accessioning and specimen tracking.
  7. Operate and maintain laboratory equipment, and ensure safety standards.
  8. Assist with training new staff and other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • High school diploma or GED; relevant experience or education may substitute.
  • Basic computer skills, knowledge of medical terminology, and phlebotomy skills.
  • Successful completion of in-laboratory training and competency assessment.
  • Valid Tennessee driver’s license with appropriate insurance and driving record.
