Job summary

Akron Children's Hospital is seeking a PRN onsite Medical Interpreter in Akron and surrounding areas to facilitate daily cross-cultural communication between patients, families, medical providers and staff. Fluency in Nepali plus strong medical interpretation skills are essential.

Responsibilities include interpreting and translating per industry standards, assisting staff with linguistically appropriate clinical services, and contributing to patient safety and care.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent required; Bachelor's degree preferred.
• Certification: passing medical interpreter training program required; national certification preferred.
• 1–2 years of relevant experience preferred; no supervisory experience.
• National medical interpreting certification or credential preferred.

Responsibilities

• Provides language interpretation and translation between Nepali/English according to industry standards.
• Assists staff in delivering linguistically and culturally appropriate clinical services.
• Demonstrates ability to address physical, psychological, social, educational, and safety needs of patients.
• Other duties as required.

Responsibilities:

• Provides language interpretation and translation services between the target language and English according to industry standards.
• Assists employees in providing linguistically and culturally appropriate clinical services to patients and families.
• Demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care for the physical, psychological, social, educational, and safety needs of the patients served regardless of age.
• Other duties as required.

Technical Expertise

• Experience in proficient use of English and the target language is required.
• Experience in medical interpreting is required.
• Experience working with all levels within an organization is preferred.
• Experience in healthcare is preferred.
• Proficiency in MS Office [Outlook, Excel, Word] or similar software is required.

Education and Experience

• Education: High School Diploma or equivalent is required; Bachelor's degree or equivalent work experience is preferred.
• Certification: Evidence of passing medical interpreter training program is required. National medical interpreting certification or credential is preferred.
• Years of relevant experience: 1 to 2 years is preferred.
• Years of experience supervising: None.
