Job summary

Lexington Health in West Columbia, SC, seeks a Specialty Interpreter to facilitate communication for LEP patients and visitors, translating spoken and signed messages and ensuring comprehension of medical procedures and discharge instructions.

The role requires at least 1 year of medical interpreting experience, bilingual proficiency (English and ASL or another language), and national certification by year one. Ability to travel to other LMC facilities is required.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or Equivalent required.
• 1 year of experience as a medical interpreter.
• Nationally certified at hire or certification within first year (CCHI for spoken languages or RID for ASL).
• Advanced language skills in English and American Sign Language or another language.

Responsibilities

• Provides interpretation services with accuracy using medical terminology.
• Follows ethics and standards per NCIHC/RID guidelines.
• Provides translation of pertinent materials as needed.
• Serves as cultural mediator to improve communication between staff and patients.
