Are you mechanically inclined with a knack for hands-on work? Do you enjoy a flexible schedule and working independently, but also have the support of a team? The Equipment Service Technician is a remote-based, customer-facing role, primarily working inside hospitals. You will troubleshoot and repair medical equipment used in surgical procedures and support installation on complex mechanical, electromechanical, and electronic units. This includes STERIS's main OEM equipment portfolio, such as washers and sterilizers.

Individuals with experience in HVAC repair, mechanics, maintenance, refrigeration, boilers, chillers, equipment repair, diesel and automotive repair, aviation repair, plumbing, electrical, etc., are often successful.

This is a remote, customer-facing position. Candidates must be based in New Jersey to support and service our customers within this territory.

What you'll do as an Equipment Service Technician:
  • Perform troubleshooting, repairs, and maintenance of STERIS and competitor equipment, systems, and components.
  • Manage time effectively to prioritize customer and business needs, completing PMs, service calls, warranty calls, installations, upgrades, and other duties.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to escalate issues, utilize advanced technology platforms, and ensure compliance with regulatory requirements.
  • Provide customers with information, pricing, and repair options, and build relationships with sales to enhance customer experience and identify sales opportunities.
  • Support various locations within the assigned territory based on service agreements and customer needs.
Experience, Skills, and Abilities required:
  • High School Diploma or GED with 4+ years of relevant work experience, including 2 years in a mechanical/technical role. Certifications or military experience may be considered.
  • Valid driver’s license and ability to meet credentialing requirements.
  • Customer and team engagement experience.
  • Effective communication skills.
  • Basic computer skills (MS Windows, email, mobile apps, data entry).
  • Flexibility for scheduling, including potential overnight and early/late hours.
  • Ability to meet hospital and customer credentialing requirements.

Pay range: $47,750 - $66,937.50, plus potential commissions. Pay is based on experience, certifications, and other factors.
