Job summary

Avalere Health is seeking a Medical Editor to support projects by editing and proofreading materials, checking data, and ensuring compliance with editorial standards. You will work with internal teams and external publishers, gaining broad experience across accounts and building copyright knowledge as you progress.

In this role, you will develop your medical editing skills, perform data checks, and collaborate on multiple accounts with senior team oversight.

Qualifications

• Degree in a scientific or related field; advanced degree advantageous (MD, PhD, PharmD, MSc, or equivalent).
• 1 year+ experience in medical or scientific editing within a healthcare consultancy or medical communications agency.
• Working knowledge of medical style guides (AMA Manual of Style) and applying guidelines to deliverables.
• Knowledge of client reference and review processes, and online reference-retrieval tools.
• Knowledge of copyright permissions in medical communications/pharmaceutical industry.
• Proficiency in PubMed searches and knowledge of literature reviews and how to conduct them.
• Strong MS Office skills (Word, PowerPoint, Excel); Adobe Acrobat; EndNote.
• Ability to prioritise, work independently with minimal supervision, and collaborate effectively as part of a team.

Responsibilities

• Edit and proofread scientific and medical communications for accuracy, clarity, and compliance with style requirements.
• Review content critically, raise queries, and recommend changes to improve flow and audience suitability.
• Apply and maintain client style guidelines and editorial processes for each project.
• Perform data checking to verify scientific information and ensure references are supported by sources.
• Assess copyright permissions and provide practical guidance to teams.
• Manage work across multiple projects, delivering high-quality outputs on time and escalating issues as needed.
• Time management and proactive communication to contribute to successful delivery.
