Job summary

Rockingham County, NH is seeking a Medical Director to provide primary medical care to residents of the Rehabilitation and Nursing Center, and to lead medical policies with the interdisciplinary team.

This role emphasizes regulatory compliance, clinical leadership, and collaboration with nursing and physicians, with on-call coverage and ongoing education.

Qualifications

  • MD or DO degree from an accredited medical school.
  • Five to ten years of Long Term Care managerial experience.
  • Equivalent combination of education, work and experience considered.
  • Must hold a valid New Hampshire State Physician License.
  • Proof of malpractice insurance required.
  • CPR / Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.

Responsibilities

  • Provide primary medical care and treatment to residents.
  • Plan and direct medical policies with the Interdisciplinary Team.

Scope Of Position

The Medical Director is responsible for providing primary medical care and treatment to residents of the Rockingham County Rehabilitation and Nursing Center. This position plans and directs the facility’s medical policies and programs in collaboration with the Interdisciplinary Team, ensuring quality care and regulatory compliance. The Medical Director also provides medical leadership to the medical and nursing teams and coordinates medical coverage for residents.

The Medical Director plays a key role in ensuring residents receive safe, evidence-based, individualized medical care. Responsibilities include providing primary medical care, assessing resident health status, diagnosing conditions, developing and evaluating plans of care, reviewing medical records and test results, and collaborating with nursing staff, physicians, and other health professionals. The Medical Director implements resident care policies related to admissions, transfers, discharges, infection control, physician practices, resident incidents, ancillary services, medication use, and overall quality of care. Further, this position maintains accurate and timely clinical documentation, maintains regulatory compliance mandated by the Center for Medicare and Medicaid Services, and participates in the facility’s Quality Improvement/Quality Assurance and Performance Improvement (QAPI) programs. The Medical Director provides medical leadership, supervises and advises medical department professional providers, and assists with continuing education, training, and orientation of nursing staff. Working with the Senior Director of Long-Term Care Services and Interdisciplinary Team, the Medical Director participates in departmental planning, medical budget and equipment needs, and the development of goals and objectives. The position also acts as a consultant to the Director of Nursing and Nurse Practitioner regarding resident care services. The Medical Director coordinates and provides medical backup to ensure 24-hour medical coverage, including on-call coverage, and supports Assisted Living in identified emergent situations. Must be able to work hours as scheduled based on the requirements of the position and department, including on-call coverage.

Required Education And Experience
  • Must hold MD or DO degree from an accredited medical school; and
  • Five (5) to (10) years of Long Term Care (or equivalent) managerial experience.
  • An equivalent combination of education, work, and experience will be considered.
  • Must hold a valid New Hampshire State Physician License.
  • Must provide proof of valid malpractice insurance
  • CPR / Basic Life Support (BLS) certified.
