Job summary

Rockingham County Rehabilitation and Nursing Center seeks a Medical Director to provide primary medical care to residents and to lead medical policies in collaboration with the Interdisciplinary Team. The role ensures quality, safety, and regulatory compliance while guiding medical and nursing staff in preventive and restorative care.

You will coordinate 24-hour medical coverage, advise on admissions and care plans, maintain clinical documentation, and support continuing education.

Qualifications

• Must hold MD or DO degree from an accredited medical school.
• Five (5) to (10) years of Long Term Care (or equivalent) managerial experience.
• An equivalent combination of education, work, and experience will be considered.
• Must hold a valid New Hampshire State Physician License.
• Must provide proof of valid malpractice insurance.
• CPR / Basic Life Support (BLS) certified.

Responsibilities

• Provide primary medical care to residents of the Rockingham County Rehabilitation and Nursing Center.
• Develop and evaluate plans of care and review medical records with the Interdisciplinary Team.
• Coordinate medical coverage for residents and 24-hour on-call support.
• Ensure regulatory compliance and participate in CMS regulations and QAPI programs.

SCOPE OF POSITION:

The Medical Director is responsible for providing primary medical care and treatment to residents of the Rockingham County Rehabilitation and Nursing Center. This position plans and directs the facility’s medical policies and programs in collaboration with the Interdisciplinary Team, ensuring quality care and regulatory compliance. The Medical Director also provides medical leadership to the medical and nursing teams and coordinates medical coverage for residents. The Medical Director plays a key role in ensuring residents receive safe, evidence-based, individualized medical care. Responsibilities include providing primary medical care, assessing resident health status, diagnosing conditions, developing and evaluating plans of care, reviewing medical records and test results, and collaborating with nursing staff, physicians, and other health professionals. The Medical Director implements resident care policies related to admissions, transfers, discharges, infection control, physician practices, resident incidents, ancillary services, medication use, and overall quality of care. Further, this position maintains accurate and timely clinical documentation, maintains regulatory compliance mandated by the Center for Medicare and Medicaid Services, and participates in the facility’s Quality Improvement/Quality Assurance and Performance Improvement (QAPI) programs. The Medical Director provides medical leadership, supervises and advises medical department professional providers, and assists with continuing education, training, and orientation of nursing staff. Working with the Senior Director of Long-Term Care Services and Interdisciplinary Team, the Medical Director participates in departmental planning, medical budget and equipment needs, and the development of goals and objectives. The position also acts as a consultant to the Director of Nursing and Nurse Practitioner regarding resident care services. The Medical Director coordinates and provides medical backup to ensure 24-hour medical coverage, including on-call coverage, and supports Assisted Living in identified emergent situations. Must be able to work hours as scheduled based on the requirements of the position and department, including on-call coverage.
