Job summary

Siemens Healthineers seeks a Usability Engineer to lead usability activities for medical devices. You will collaborate with UX, product management, risk, and quality teams to ensure safety and performance across hardware and software products.

This role requires residence in Minneapolis with travel up to 25%. You will integrate human factors into the development cycle, conduct usability testing, and ensure documentation aligns with IEC 62366-1.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in engineering (specializing in human factors or biomedical), human computer interaction, psychology or related fields.
• 5+ years of experience applying human factors, ergonomics, usability engineering, or human computer interaction standards in product design.
• Experience working on complex, enterprise products and ecosystems, in regulated industries is an asset.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English.
• Clinical and/or healthcare product knowledge is an advantage.
• Familiarity with the requirements of applicable usability engineering standards for medical devices (IEC 62366-1)

Responsibilities

• Realize usability engineering activities and documentation with quality, risk management, and validation stakeholders.
• Integrate human factors knowledge into the product development cycle and incorporate user feedback into design.
• Conduct usability assessments and testing and present findings to inform next steps.
• Assess and recommend the required level of usability engineering support.
• Engage external clinical experts in alignment with quality and compliance standards
• Execute within medical environment constraints.
• Lead usability engineering activities per internal work instruction.
• Ensure documentation complies with IEC 62366-1:2015.
• Represent usability engineering in audits.
• Collaborate to learn and grow and apply UX processes across development stages.
• Educate peers to grow the team’s competence
• Develop and improve tools, templates, and work instructions
