Job summary

Mayo Clinic in Minnesota is seeking a part-time Switchboard Operator to greet callers and provide information in line with hospital policies. You will support internal and external communications in a 24-hour, high-demand setting.

Requirements include a high school diploma, at least 2 years of customer service experience, keyboarding and clear English communication; prior switchboard or telephone operator work is preferred. Training is provided and weekend/holiday coverage may be needed.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma/GED required.
• Applicant must have 2 years of customer service experience.
• Computer keyboarding and general telephone knowledge required.
• Must display competency in spoken communication, interaction and versatility, decision making and problem solving, coping, commitment to task, tolerance of ambiguity, decisiveness, and the ability to work both with a team and independently.

Responsibilities

• Greets and welcomes patients and general public who call into the facility in a courteous manner while adhering to the policies and guidelines of the organization.
• Provides direction and information internally and externally.
• Follows all general and emergency procedures accurately and in a timely manner including making phone calls, overhead announcements, pages, and other electronic notifications.
• Operators perform other related tasks and projects as directed; the Communication Center is operational 24 hours a day and shifts readiness is required.
