Job summary

McKenzie Health System in Sandusky, MI is seeking a Coding Specialist to perform coding and abstracting of procedures and treatments in a hospital setting, ensuring accuracy and complete documentation for billing.

Under the supervision of the CBO Billing Manager, you will review patient accounts, research rejected claims, conduct documentation audits, and respond to coding inquiries from healthcare practices while ensuring compliance with licensing and accrediting agencies.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or Equivalency, required.
• 1–2 years ICD 10 CM and CPT 4 coding experience preferred.
• Experience with medical billing/insurance processing preferred.
• Procedure and diagnostic coding experience preferred.
• Medical Terminology course required.
• Anatomy and physiology course preferred.
• CPC certification within 6 months of hire.

Responsibilities

• Code and abstract procedures and treatments per guidelines.
• Review patient accounts and follow up on rejected claims.
• Answer coding inquiries from healthcare practices and customers.
• Perform regular documentation audits and prepare coding reports.
• Assist in special projects as assigned.
