Job summary

MyMichigan Health seeks an experienced Medical Coder to handle coding for services in both office and hospital settings. The role requires strong CPT/ICD knowledge, familiarity with CMS guidelines, and the ability to work with Epic coding tools to maximize accurate reimbursement.

Requirements include 2 years of physician coding and billing experience, 4 years in the medical field, and strong communication skills. Associate degree preferred; high school diploma required.

Qualifications

• Two years physician coding and billing experience and four years experience in the medical field is preferred.
• One year with direct physician contact is preferred.
• Knowledge of medical terminology and anatomy.
• Proficiency in the use of personal computer.
• Knowledge of medical record/patient confidentiality laws.
• Great organizational skills are required.
• Oral, written and interpersonal skills to communicate ideas clearly with individuals and groups.

Responsibilities

• Codes visits and services performed in office and hospital within 48 hours of receipt.
• Uses Epic coding edits, CPT Assistant, and CMS coding guidelines to correct ICD, CPT, HCPCS codes and modifiers to ensure clean claims.
• Codes all major and minor surgical cases, including obstetrics, in both office and hospital settings within 48 hours of receipt.
• Interacts with physicians/provider to improve documentation.
• Performs continuing education to enhance coding knowledge.
