Job summary

McDonough District Hospital in Macomb, IL seeks a qualified Medical Coder to review, analyze, and abstract physician services for accurate coding and billing. You will assign ICD-10-CM, CPT, and HCPCS codes, review documentation for completeness, and resolve coding questions with encoder software and coding references.

Requires a high school diploma, AAPC/AHIMA certification, and 2–3 years of professional coding experience; experience with multiple clinics is preferred.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Current coding certification through AAPC or AHIMA (CPC/CCS/CCS-P) required.
• Minimum of 2–3 years of professional medical coding experience preferred.
• Experience with multiple clinic specialties, especially primary care, OB/GYN, pediatrics, general surgery, gastroenterology, orthopedics, and wound care is preferred.
• Previous medical billing/revenue cycle experience is a plus.
• Experience with electronic health records, encoder software, and coding resources is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Reviews, analyzes, codes, and abstracts physician services and clinic-based professional fee encounters.
• Assigns ICD-10-CM, CPT, and HCPCS codes to support billing, compliance, and quality reporting.
• Reviews documentation for completeness and accuracy; communicates with providers to clarify when needed.
• Uses encoder software and coding resources to resolve coding questions and maintain accuracy and productivity.
• Supports continuous improvement in coding quality and revenue cycle performance.
