Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent is required.
• Two years of medical coding, reimbursement, or medical billing experience, preferably in a physician group or academic setting; OR
• Current coding certification from AAPC or AHIMA, maintained during employment.

Responsibilities

• Review physician documentation and assign ICD-10-CM, CPT, and HCPCS codes per guidelines.
• Ensure coding accuracy, completeness, and timely submission meeting productivity/quality standards.
• Maintain compliance with HIPAA, payer policies, and coding standards.
• Identify documentation deficiencies and collaborate with providers for clarification.
• Partner with providers and billing staff to resolve coding issues and facilitate claims processing.
• Participate in audits, education, and process improvements to maintain proficiency.

Education

High school diploma or equivalent

AAPC or AHIMA certification (required or maintained)
