Job summary

Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center seeks a skilled Medical Coder to review medical records, assign CPT, HCPCS and ICD codes, and enter charges from fee sheets or EMR. You will ensure complete, accurate and timely codes for services across all locations and work with clinicians to educate on coding rules.

Ideal candidates have 2 years of coding/reimbursement experience, a current AAPC or AHIMA certification, and a preference for an academic health care setting.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or equivalent required.
• Current coding certification from AAPC or AHIMA to remain current during term of employment.
• 2 years of coding and/or reimbursement experience, preferably in a physician group or health care setting.

Responsibilities

• Review official medical records and assign CPT, HCPCS and ICD codes.
• Data entry of charges from fee sheets or EMR.
• Ensure accurate, complete and timely code assignments for all services across all places of service.
• Collaborate with Faculty, Residents and staff to ensure coding accuracy and provide education.
• Manage denial files for appeals and work with Business Office on denial reasons and responses.
