They actively and independently resolve issues that impact claim quality and reimbursement.

  • SCOPE: Independently demonstrates consistent and accurate application of coding principles, knowledge, quality assurance, and risk mitigation to multiple provider charges, over broad range of service lines; able to navigate complex specialty nuances.
  • INDEPENDENCE: Works independently with spot- quality assurance reviews, and quarterly audits.
  • PROBLEM SOLVING: Easily and independently resolves coding/documentation issues, documents rationale, and drives process improvements that reduce repeat errors.
  • IMPACT OWNERSHIP: Produces accurate, compliant codes for multiple providers and service lines. Actively safeguards first-pass claim success by validating documentation support and medical necessity, applying modifiers/edits correctly, and proactively preventing avoidable denials, rework, and compliance risk.
Essential Job Functions
  • Codes complex and high-risk clinic charges independently by validating documentation support/medical necessity, selecting appropriate ICD-10/CPT/HCPCS, and applying advanced modifier/edit logic to protect first-pass claim quality.
  • Improves documentation quality by educating and consulting providers/clinical staff, translating coding requirements into clear, non-leading documentation guidance that reduces queries and rework.
  • Monitors and operationalizes change (payer policies, coverage updates, code set changes, treatment/procedure shifts) by communicating impacts, updating internal guidance, and aligning coding/billing workflows accordingly.
  • Resolves discrepancies and denials end-to-end by determining root cause (coding vs documentation vs payer edit), coordinating corrections with billing/AR, documenting rationale, and preventing repeat issues.
  • Supports audits and compliance readiness by assembling support, explaining coding rationale, identifying risk trends, and partnering with QA/leadership on corrective action.
  • Owns specialty-specific maintenance and accuracy (e.g., NDC updates and validation, applicable NCCN alignment where relevant) and actively troubleshoots claim rejections with AR/billing to ensure clean processing.
  • Leads cross-functional workflow improvements by identifying breakdown points between departments, proposing fixes, and producing actionable reports/insights for the Revenue Cycle team.
