Job summary

PTHA in Tacoma, WA is seeking a medical coder to join the Patient Accounts team. You will review EMRs for correct coding, verify payer information, and help providers improve documentation and compliance.

The role requires CPC, CPC-A, CCA, or CCS credentials and at least three years of recent medical coding or charge billing experience. Collaboration with clinicians and IT supports accurate revenue cycle operations.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED.
• Current CPC, CPC-A, CCA, or CCS credential.
• Minimum of three years of recent medical coding and/or charge billing experience (within the last four years).
• Experience with EHR/EMR and practice management systems.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook).
• Strong analytical, organizational, communication, and time management skills.

Responsibilities

• Review EMRs to ensure documentation supports E/M, ICD-10-CM, CPT, and HCPCS coding.
• Verify medical necessity, coding accuracy, modifiers, and payer information before billing.
• Communicate documentation deficiencies to providers and educate to improve coding accuracy.
• Collaborate with physicians, Patient Accounts, and IT to resolve coding and billing issues.
• Review provider task queues and coding worklists daily to ensure timely processing.
• Reconcile unbilled encounter reports and resolve outstanding billing issues.
• Stay current with coding guidelines, payer regulations, and industry updates.
• Assist with training new team members and provider education initiatives.
• Maintain HIPAA compliance and adherence to policies and regulatory requirements.
