Job summary

Spectrum Healthcare Resources is seeking a full-time Medical Coder to join the team at the Dumfries Ambulatory Care Center in Dumfries, VA. This outpatient healthcare environment supports active-duty service members, veterans, retirees, and their families.

The ideal candidate holds AHIMA or AAPC certification, has at least 1 year of related experience, and completed a Medical Coding Course. In this on-site role, you will review charts, assign codes, ensure compliance, and support monthly

Qualifications

• AHIMA or AAPC certification required and must be maintained.
• High school diploma or GED equivalent.
• Minimum of 1 year of related experience.
• Successful completion of a Medical Coding Course.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
• Ability to read, write, and speak English effectively.
• Ability to work in an on-site office environment; this is not a remote position.

Responsibilities

• Review patient charts and documentation for accuracy and completeness
• Assign and sequence medical codes in accordance with government regulations, insurance requirements, and applicable coding guidelines
• Identify and clarify discrepancies or incomplete information with appropriate staff
• Ensure compliance with medical coding policies, procedures, and standards
• Compile physician-provided information for monthly reporting
• Maintain accurate records and documentation
• Utilize computer systems for coding, data entry, word processing, and automated recordkeeping
• Communicate effectively with patients, providers, and healthcare staff
• Support accurate and efficient administrative and clinical operations
