Responsibilities

• Apply diagnostic and procedural codes to patient records for document retrieval, analysis, and claim processing.
• Abstract relevant information from patient records and assign appropriate ICD, CPT, HCPCS, APC, or DRG codes.
• Meet productivity and quality standards as defined by coding policies.
• Query physicians when documentation is unclear or incomplete for coding purposes.
• Maintain knowledge of coding guidelines and reimbursement requirements.
• Conduct chart audits and provide education on documentation and coding as needed.
• Adhere to ethical coding standards set by AHIMA and official guidelines.

Requirements

• Certified Coding Specialist (CCS) or Certified Professional Coder (CPC) preferred.
• High school diploma or equivalent, or 1 year of relevant experience.

Additional Preferences

• 3+ years of professional coding experience in clinical and facility settings.
• Surgical coding knowledge.
• Excellent communication and attention to detail.
• CPC certification preferred.
