Medical Coder (Remote - Optional) Wichita KS

Overview

The Medical Coder will be responsible for coding professional services at our high-volume pain management practice. Responsibilities include reviewing medical record documentation, assigning diagnosis and procedure codes, and ensuring completeness and compliance of medical records for both practice and hospital settings. Remote work is possible for experienced coders, but onsite presence in Wichita, KS, may be required.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Assign CPT and ICD-10 codes for professional services, focusing on Evaluation and Management encounters and pain management procedures.
  2. Assist providers with coding updates, changes, and education.
  3. Support billing staff with coding-related questions and denials.
  4. Conduct coding audits and analyses, providing feedback and education.
  5. Review hospital records for physician deficiencies, update EMR accordingly, and notify relevant staff.
  6. Review daily transcribed documents for accuracy and completeness.
  7. Assist with coding inpatient, outpatient, and hospital pain management procedures as needed.
  8. Stay updated on current coding guidelines and maintain necessary credentials.
Additional Responsibilities
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
  • Support the hospital's mission and uphold confidentiality.
  • Communicate effectively with staff and management.
Licensure and Certification
  • RHIT, RHIA, CCS, or CCS-P certification required.
Qualifications
  • Associate’s Degree in Health Information Technology preferred.
  • Minimum of two years of professional and E&M coding experience.
  • Pain management coding experience is a plus.
  • Knowledge of insurance payors and proficiency with 3M software and EHR systems.
  • Excellent communication, prioritization, and customer service skills.
Work Environment

Must be able to read, speak, and write fluently in English, with good cognitive, visual, and hearing abilities. Job involves sitting most of the time and working extensively with computers.
