SUMMARY OF ROLE

The Medical Case Coordinator serves as the firm's medical and legal resource by providing expertise in medical terminology, treatment progression, medical records, billing, and injury documentation. This role plays a vital part in enhancing the quality and value of personal injury cases by ensuring that medical documentation is accurate, complete, organized, and strategically analyzed throughout the life of each case.

This role will collaborate closely with attorneys, paralegals, legal assistants, clients, and medical providers to identify medical issues, monitor treatment, obtain and analyze medical records, educate team members, and help maximize case outcomes through comprehensive medical case management.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES

include but are not limited to:

• Review and analyze medical records, billing statements, imaging reports, and provider documentation to identify injuries, diagnoses, treatment progression, and potential case issues.
• Monitor clients' medical treatment and communicate with legal staff regarding treatment gaps, future care recommendations, and case development opportunities.
• Serve as the firm's subject matter expert regarding medical terminology, injuries, treatment protocols, anatomy, and personal injury-related medical issues.
• Assist attorneys and paralegals in evaluating medical damages and identifying factors that may impact case value.
• Educate clients regarding medical documentation needs and assist with coordinating referrals or follow-up treatment when appropriate.
• Maintain compliance with HIPAA regulations and all confidentiality requirements regarding protected health information.
• Assist with training legal staff on medical terminology, medical records review, and best practices for documenting injuries and treatment.
• Perform additional duties and special projects as assigned to support the firm's mission and operational goals.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES

• Extensive knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy, physiology, diagnoses, treatment plans, and common personal injury injuries.
• Knowledge of personal injury litigation and how medical evidence impacts liability and damages.
• Effective in being proactive with problem solving, centering our client’s needs and wants in all aspects of the job.
• Ability to exercise good judgement and hold oneself and others to a high standard of ethics.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

• Associate Degree
• High school diploma or educational equivalent.
• Minimum of 3 years of experience in one or more of the following:
• Personal Injury Law
• Medical records
• Medical billing/coding
• Nursing or clinical healthcare
• Strong working knowledge of medical terminology
• Computer skills, with working knowledge of the primary Microsoft Office programs.
• Ability to successfully pass a background check and other pre-employment screening.
