Job summary

Pulmonary Associates of Richmond in Richmond, VA, is seeking a full-time Authorization Specialist. The role handles authorization processing and medical billing claims across private and government payers, with responsibility for follow-up and denial resolution.

The successful candidate will have basic CPT/ICD-10-CM knowledge, EMR experience, and proficiency with Allscripts PM. This is a hands-on, revenue-cycle-focused position in a clinical setting.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent.
• One year of medical billing office experience in medical practice or one year of customer service experience is preferred.
• Knowledge of CPT, ICD-10-CM
• Knowledge of a medical authorization life cycle.
• Knowledge of EMR documentation.
• Knowledge of effective claim follow up.
• Computer software skills in a Windows environment
• Skill in using Allscripts PM and EMR
• Skill in using office equipment, including multi line phone, copier, and fax machine.

Responsibilities

• Revenue Cycle Process.
• Authorization Processing.
• Apply Private Payer Policies.
• Apply Government Payer Policies.
• Follow up on Claim Statuses.
• Resolve Claim Denials.
• Daily Analysis and Resolution of outstanding insurance accounts receivable.
• Knowledge of CPT, ICD-10-CM, and HCPCS Level II Coding Guidelines
• Complete daily tasks: responding to insurance representatives.
• Assist Billing Director with daily workload as time permits.
• Perform other duties as assigned by provider, supervisor, or member of Administration – for example, cross trained to improve the revenue cycle.
