Job summary

Care New England in Warwick, RI, seeks a Professional Biller II to support patient accounts, process payments, denials, and refunds, and act as a billing liaison to carriers and guarantors. You will maintain monthly spreadsheets and ensure timely submission of claims in both electronic and paper formats.

The ideal candidate has a high school diploma with 3–5 years in third-party medical billing, solid knowledge of CPT/ICD-10, and strong communication and analytical skills to protect cash

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required with three to five years experience in third party medical billing.
• Working knowledge of medical accounts receivable software programs and PC skills necessary.
• Competence in math and knowledge of GAAP accounting principles as well as CPT and ICD-10 requirements.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with initiative and independent judgment.

Responsibilities

• Monitors accounts receivable by age from date of service and by patient.
• Communicates with insurance carriers, patients or medical office staff to adjudicate patient accounts.
• Assist supervisor with difficult accounts to resolve balances or inquiries.
• Follow guidelines when adjusting charges or writing off to bad debt.
• Prevent timely filing denials by adhering to carrier follow-up guidelines.
• Use information system tools to audit patient accounts and attach insurance demographics.
• Maintain confidentiality and privacy per regulations.
• Post insurance and patient payments into billing systems and process refunds; generate secondary claims.
• Balance daily payments and prepare monthly spreadsheets for reporting.
• Assist coworkers to meet department goals.
• Address denied claims and review edits prior to submission.
• Review and correct claims edits before submission to payers.
• Log receipt of transmitted claims and act within 24 hours if transmission failed.
• Report trends and errors to management for training.
