The Medical Assistant (MA) performs assigned tasks of direct and indirect care in the ambulatory setting to meet the care needs of patients under the direct supervision of a Registered Nurse (RN), Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN), or Licensed Independent Practitioner (LIP). The Medical Assistant participates as a member of the healthcare team and accepts appropriate delegation from the RN, LPN, or LIP to meet patient/family needs. The Medical Assistant performs tasks in accordance with the patient care plan, organizational policies, and principles of patient-centered care. Tasks are within those functions limited by NYS law to unlicensed healthcare personnel.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Documents information accurately and timely into patient records.
  2. Obtains prior authorizations from insurance companies.
  3. Generates medical renewals under supervision of a licensed healthcare provider.
  4. Assists LPNs with obtaining information for pump/sensor/meter approvals.
  5. Provides clinical support as needed.
  6. Adheres to AMC’s regulatory compliance standards.
  7. Performs other duties as assigned by the manager.

Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma/G.E.D. required.
  • Medical office experience preferred.
  • Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
  • Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) - AAMA, upon hire.
  • National Certified Medical Assistant (NCMA) - NCTT, upon hire.
  • Registered Medical Assistant (RMA) - American Medical Technologists, upon hire.
