Summary
The PG - Medical Assistant Technician provides patient care and performs clerical duties in a physician practice setting. Responsibilities include assisting physicians during examinations and treatments, and managing clerical tasks such as updating medical records, scheduling, and insurance documentation. The incumbent reports directly to the Office Manager and is supervised by a provider for medical duties.
Responsibilities
Administrative duties may include: using computer applications, answering phones, welcoming patients, updating and filing medical records, coding insurance forms, scheduling appointments, and handling correspondence and billing. Clinical duties may include: taking medical histories, preparing patients for exams, assisting during procedures, collecting lab specimens, performing basic lab tests, drawing blood, and taking electrocardiograms. Additional tasks include cleaning exam rooms and maintaining supplies. Advanced clinical duties may be performed under supervision as needed. Demonstrates service excellence and CARE values (Compassion, Accountability, Respect, and Expertise). Performs other duties as assigned.
Experience
Generally requires 0 to 3 years of related experience.
Education
High school diploma is required.
Skills
Ability to analyze, organize, and prioritize work; communicate effectively; handle stressful situations professionally; follow instructions; exercise sound judgment; and use relevant technology and software.
Credentials
Certification by the American Association of Medical Assistants or credentialing as a Registered Medical Assistant is preferred. BLS certification is required upon hire with at least 6 months validity, maintained during employment.
Working Conditions
Physical requirements include extended standing, lifting objects up to 100 pounds with equipment, and frequent visual acuity for computer use. Environmental conditions involve working in a fast-paced healthcare setting, exposure to infectious and hazardous materials, and wearing PPE as needed. Reasonable accommodations are available.
