Summary

Patient Care Associate 2 is a licensed member of the healthcare team who performs advanced, supportive administrative and clinical duties to support age-specific and standardized patient care under the supervision of a registered nurse. Responsibilities include assisting with hygiene, safety, nutrition, elimination, and comfort needs. Knowledge and skills in specialty areas may be required. This is a Level 4 position in the nursing support hierarchy.

Responsibilities
  1. Use systematic processes to provide or modify care and educate patients/families.
  2. Assist healthcare team with advanced procedures; prepare supplies and equipment; support patients and families; assist with positioning, setup, or removal of equipment.
  3. Perform general patient care tasks such as vital signs, feeding, mobility, IV management, personal hygiene, and linen changes.
  4. Utilize specialized equipment as needed (e.g., spirometer, restraints).
  5. Prepare and clean exam rooms and treatment areas; transport patients; maintain cleanliness of assigned areas.
  6. Assist with discharge procedures and make rounds to report issues.
  7. Maintain supplies and equipment inventory.
  8. Support office duties like answering phones and taking messages.
  9. Follow unit-specific policies and procedures.
  10. Perform duties specific to ER or specialty areas, including emergency response and assisting with procedures.
  11. Demonstrate service excellence and CARE values (Compassion, Accountability, Respect, and Expertise).
Experience

Generally requires 1 to 3 years of related experience.

Education

High School diploma is required.

Skills

Ability to analyze, organize, prioritize work, communicate effectively, handle stressful situations, understand instructions, and use relevant technology. Must meet unit-specific skills and certifications.

Credentials

Effective 4/25/2024, must have one of the following:

  • Completion of a school training program for patient care technicians with phlebotomy training.
  • Florida licensure as a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) with phlebotomy training.
  • Completion of a medical assisting program including phlebotomy.
  • Florida licensure as EMT (including phlebotomy).

American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required upon hire, valid for at least 6 months.

Working Conditions

Physical Requirements: Extended standing/walking, lifting objects up to 50 pounds, and visual acuity for computer work. Reasonable accommodations available.

Environmental Conditions: Fast-paced hospital environment with potential exposure to infectious diseases, chemicals, and hazards. PPE required when exposed to clinical environments.
