Summary
Medical Surgical Attendant is a member of the healthcare team who assists nursing and surgical professional staff in patient care and maintaining a safe, clean environment under the supervision of nursing staff, shift supervisor, and director of nursing.
Responsibilities
Uses a systematic process to provide and modify care, as well as patient and family education. Cleans surgical service department areas, including operating, labor, delivery, recovery, and prep rooms between cases as needed. Assists nurses in obtaining equipment for these areas. Keeps patients informed about their medical condition and treatment plans. Demonstrates service excellence and CARE values (Compassion, Accountability, Respect, and Expertise). Performs additional duties as assigned, including patient transportation.
Experience
Generally requires 0 to 3 years of related experience.
Education
High School diploma is required.

Ability to analyze, organize, and prioritize work accurately while meeting multiple deadlines. Effective communication skills in oral and written forms. Ability to handle stressful situations with critical thinking and professionalism. Ability to understand and follow instructions. Exercise sound and independent judgment. Proficiency with job-related technology and software. Must meet and maintain all unit-specific and organizational skills, competencies, certifications, and licensures required by the nursing area.
Credentials
American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) certification and any additional applicable life support certifications for Healthcare Providers are required upon hire, with at least 6 months of validity, and must be maintained throughout employment.

Working Conditions
Physical Requirements - Extended standing or walking required. Must be able to carry objects weighing 21 to 50 pounds and lift/move objects weighing 51 to 100 pounds with appropriate devices. Frequent visual acuity needed for computer activities. Reasonable accommodations available through the department and RAC.
Environmental Conditions - Fast-paced environment with occasional high-pressure situations. Interaction with diverse populations including staff, patients, and public. Exposure to hospital environment hazards, including communicable diseases, chemicals, and sharps. PPE required when exposed to infectious environments. Reasonable accommodations can be provided for disabilities.
