Responsibilities include:

  1. Acting as a mentor to new Level II and entry-level Medical Assistants, assisting with orientation and development.
  2. Providing direct patient care and serving as a liaison between provider and patient.
  3. Performing vitals, patient history, venipuncture, lab, x-ray, referrals, and patient phone messages as directed by the provider and/or clinical supervisor.
  4. Adhering to age-related competencies and National Patient Safety Goals as appropriate.

Qualifications:

  • Current nationally recognized Medical Assistant certification/registration and 3 years of experience as a clinic Medical Assistant in an ambulatory setting.
  • 3 years of direct customer service experience; 3 years of telephone customer service experience preferred.
  • CPR or BLS certification within 90 days of employment.
  • Validation of competency in medication administration.
  • Demonstration of core competencies within 90 days.
  • Effective communication skills in English (Verbal/Written).

Additional Responsibilities:

  • Instructing patients/caregivers on signs/symptoms of complications and home management related to disease process.
  • Documenting patient status accurately and timely using EMR.
  • Reviewing charts for accuracy after each visit.
  • Reporting suspected abuse and referring patients/families to appropriate resources.
  • Performing procedures such as Venipuncture, EKG, Waived Testing, Bone Density, X-Ray, among others.
  • Sterilizing equipment after procedures.
  • Managing large call volumes with excellent telephone etiquette.
  • Organizing workflow to meet patient needs promptly.
  • Gathering and documenting patient condition information, including lab values, pain levels, education needs, nutritional status, and potential complications.
  • Participating in patient assessment and reassessment.
  • Monitoring for signs and symptoms related to abnormal lab values and deviations from baseline assessments.
  • Participating in developing and evaluating the plan of care, including medication administration (excluding narcotics).
  • Contributing to the orientation and development of new staff.
  • Signing off on competencies for Level II.

Responsible for maintaining a hazard-free environment while performing duties. May have additional physical or respiratory requirements. Must follow standard precautions to minimize risks, including exposure to infections, blood, body fluids, chemicals, and electrical hazards.
