Job description

• Provide clinical and clerical support to providers and patient care teams
• Perform back-office and patient-related tasks supporting high-quality patient care
• Help ensure smooth patient and workflow within the department
• Assist the patient care team in implementing the medical plan of care
• Integrate education, technical competence, and patient interaction skills to gain patient and family cooperation
• Perform all duties under the direction of a clinician
• Handle hazardous drugs when required, including managing, storing, preparing, receiving, unpacking, transporting, disposing of, or administering them according to NIOSH and USP 800 guidelines

Requirements

• High School Diploma or General Education Diploma (GED)
• Completion of a course of study consistent with the requirements for Medical Assistants as specified by the Medical Board of California; must present diploma within 90 days
• OR completion of Sutter Health on-the-job training in medical assisting equivalent to one year
• BLS-Basic Life Support Healthcare Provider certification and licensure
• 1 year of recent relevant experience
• General knowledge of medical procedures, views, and equipment
• Basic understanding of human anatomy, physiology, pathology, and medical terminology
• Competency and validation in basic Medical Assisting skills, including taking vital signs, preparing patients for exams, and administering injections
• Ability to interpret written, oral, diagram, and schedule-based data and instructions
• Written and verbal communication skills to explain sensitive information clearly and professionally to diverse audiences
• Time management and organizational skills, including prioritization and meeting deadlines
• General knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook) and electronic health records (EHR)
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team in an interruption-prone environment
• Ability to identify, evaluate, and resolve standard problems using established solutions
• Ability to collaborate with peers and healthcare providers
