Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Successful completion of an approved Medical Assistant program.
• Five (5) years of experience as a Certified Medical Assistant.
• Medical Assistant Certification through the AAMA or RMA via AMT.

Responsibilities

• Reviews and prepares medical records before patient exams.
• Assist with patient history and physical assessments; assist with exams and simple procedures.
• Check vital signs and document measurements.
• Prepare exam and treatment rooms; ensure sanitation and supplies.
• Perform phlebotomy and collect specimens for lab; prepare results for physician signature.
• Administer breathing treatments and injections, and perform EKGs.
• Answer calls and relay patient questions to the appropriate staff.
• Provide patient and family education within knowledge scope.
• Assist with scheduling referrals for treatments.
• Respond to medical emergencies and provide first aid as needed.
• Perform lab duties and other clinical tasks as required.

The Medical Assistant Phlebotomist plays acritical role in assisting healthcare providers with direct patient care.

This position requires a minimum of five (5)years of experience. Qualified candidates must possess strong knowledge ofmedical terminology, communication skills, organizational skills, and apatient-focused attitude.

Duties and Responsibilities:

• Reviews and prepares medical records to ensurecompleteness prior to patient exam, obtaining missing documentation.Documents clinic visit, observations, and related activities.
• Assists with initiation of patient history andphysical assessment. Assists nurses and physicians with physical examsand simple in-house surgical and therapeutic procedures.
• Checks patient vital signs and takes bodymeasurements, documenting results in patient chart.
• Prepares and maintains exam and treatmentrooms, cleaning after patient discharges to ensure a clean and sanitizedenvironment. Maintains supplies inventory and ensures patient careequipment is clean and properly functioning, reporting defective equipmentand supplies to supervisor.
• Perform phlebotomy procedures. Collectsspecimens and prepares them for outside lab and performs urinalysis onurine specimens. Prepares lab results for physician to sign.
• Administers breathing treatments andinjections, performs EKGs
• Answers phone calls, relaying patient requestsand questions to appropriate individuals. Explains provider instructionsto patient, as appropriate.
• Provides teaching to patients and familieswithin scope of knowledge base.
• Assists with scheduling/referral of patientsfor specific treatments.
• Responds to medical emergencies and administersfirst aid as appropriate.
• Performs lab duties and other clinical dutiesas required.

Minimum Qualifications:

• ·High school diploma or equivalent
• ·Successful completion of an approvedMedical Assistant program
• ·Five (5) years of experience as aCertified Medical Assistant
• ·Medical Assistant Certification throughthe American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA) or for the RegisteredMedical Assistant (RMA) through the American Medical Technologists (AMT)

Physical Requirements:

The physical activities of this positionmay include climbing, pushing, standing, hearing, walking, reaching, grasping,kneeling, stooping, and repetitive motion. Must have good balance andcoordination. The physical requirements of this position are medium work -exerting up to 50 lbs. of force occasionally and/or up to 25 lbs. of forcefrequently. The Medical Assistant Phlebotomist is required to have close visualacuity including color, depth perception, and field of vision to perform anactivity, such as assessing patients, and analyzing data and figures;transcribing; viewing a computer terminal; or extensive reading. Frequent invasiveand non-invasive patient contact. Exposure to patient body fluids as well asexposure to hazardous or poisonous materials.
