Qualifications

• Five (5) years of experience as a Certified Medical Assistant.
• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Successful completion of an approved Medical Assistant program.
• MA Certification through the AAMA or RMA through AMT.

Responsibilities

• Reviews and prepares medical records prior to patient exams.
• Assists with patient history, physical exams, and simple in-house procedures.
• Checks vital signs and documents results.
• Maintains exam rooms and cleans after patient discharges.
• Maintains supplies inventory and reports defective equipment.
• Collects specimens and prepares lab results for physicians.
• Administers injections, EKGs, and breathing treatments.
• Answers calls and relays requests; provides patient education.
• Schedules referrals and assists with appointments.
• Responds to emergencies and provides first aid.
• Supports clinical activities at other sites as needed.
• Performs other duties as required.

The MedicalAssistant plays a critical role in assisting healthcare providers with direct patient care.

This position requires a minimum of five (5) years of experience. Qualified candidates must possess strong knowledge of medical terminology, communication skills, organizational skills, and a patient-focused attitude.

Duties and Responsibilities

• Reviews and prepares medical records to ensurecompleteness prior to patient exam, obtaining missing documentation. Documents clinic visit, observations, and related activities.
• Assists with initiation of patient history and physicalassessment. Assist physicians with physical exams and simple in-houseprocedures.
• Checks patient vital signs and takes body measurements,documenting results in patient chart.
• Prepares and maintains exam and treatment rooms,cleaning after patient discharges to ensure a clean and sanitizedenvironment.
• Maintains supplies inventory and ensures patient careequipment is clean and properly functioning, reporting defective equipmentand supplies to supervisor.
• Collects specimens and prepares them for lab andperforms urinalysis on urine specimens. Prepares lab results forphysicians to sign.
• Administers breathing treatments, injections, performsEKGs, etc.
• Answers phone calls, relaying patient requests andquestions to appropriate individuals. Explains provider instructions topatient, as appropriate. Provides teaching to patients and families withinscope of knowledge base.
• Assists with scheduling/referral of patients forspecific treatments.
• Responds to medical emergencies and administers firstaid as appropriate.
• Provide Medical Assistant clinical support for other site locations as needed.
• Performs other duties as required.

Minimum Qualifications

• High school diploma orequivalent
• Successful completionof an approved Medical Assistant program
• Five (5) years ofexperience as a Certified Medical Assistant
• Medical AssistantCertification through the American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA) orfor the Registered Medical Assistant (RMA) through the American MedicalTechnologists (AMT)
• Must possess andmaintain a valid driver's license

Physical Requirements

The physical activities of this position mayinclude climbing, pushing, standing, hearing, walking, reaching, grasping,kneeling, stooping, and repetitive motion. Must have good balance andcoordination. The physical requirements of this position are medium work -exerting up to 50 lbs. of force occasionally and/or up to 25 lbs. of forcefrequently. The Medical Assistant is required to have close visualacuity including color, depth perception, and field of vision to perform anactivity, such as assessing patients, and analyzing data and figures;transcribing; viewing a computer terminal; or extensive reading. Frequent invasiveand non-invasive patient contact. Exposure to patient body fluids as well asexposure to hazardous or poisonous materials.
