Pay Range: $16.50 - $23.48 per hour

Overview

SCOPE: Under direct supervision, assists physicians and clinicians with patient care duties in a clinical environment. Promotes efficient patient flow and patient care, including exams and procedures. Performs clinic support tasks such as clerical duties, answering phones, and maintaining physicians' schedules. Supports and adheres to the US Oncology Compliance Program, including the Code of Ethics and Business Standards.

Responsibilities
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  1. Escorts patients to and from exam rooms, physician offices, and treatment rooms as appropriate.
  2. Records patient data prior to each physician visit, including vital signs, height, weight, allergies, and medication changes.
  3. Obtains all necessary patient records as required by the physician prior to treatment or procedures.
  4. Prepares and stocks exam/treatment rooms and orders supplies as needed.
  5. Assists physicians with exams and procedures as requested.
  6. Administers subcutaneous and intramuscular injections, as delegated by RN or physician.
  7. Maintains all exam/treatment room disinfection protocols.
  8. Answers patient telephone calls for referrals to physicians or nurses/pharmacists.
  9. Phones in prescriptions and makes other patient calls as directed by physicians and RN.
  10. Informs physicians of patient reschedules and no-shows.
  11. Performs administrative duties such as typing, filing, faxing, chart preparation, and reception as requested.
Qualifications
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

High school diploma or equivalent. Certification from an accredited Medical Assistant program preferred. Requires 1-3 years of experience as a medical or nursing assistant. Current BCLS certification required within 3 months of hire. Certified Medical Assistant preferred. Some state regulations may require specific certifications.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

Includes handling and lifting patients, manual dexterity, eye-hand coordination, standing, walking, and occasionally lifting up to 40 lbs. Requires normal vision and hearing.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

Exposure to communicable diseases, toxic substances, radiation, and other hazards typical of an oncology/hematology clinic. Reasonable accommodations provided as needed.
