Job summary

WellMed, part of the Optum family, is seeking a Medical Assistant to support clinical teams and patients across Texas clinics. The MA will work under supervision to perform routine patient-care duties, operate basic diagnostic equipment, and prepare examination rooms in a compliant, patient-centric environment.

Ideal candidates have MA certification and BLS, plus good communication skills and a commitment to infection control and confidentiality.

Qualifications

• Current, nationally recognized Medical Assistant certification or ability to obtain within 180 days of employment.
• Current BLS certification for healthcare providers (written exam and in-person assessment) at time of hire or within 30 days of hire.
• Proven knowledge of medical terminology.
• Basic computer literacy including Word, Excel, Outlook and EMR systems.
• Proven ability to react calmly and effectively in emergency situations.
• TB screening and immunity to specified diseases through vaccination or documentation.

Responsibilities

• Performs duties within the scope of a Medical Assistant's practice, operates diagnostic equipment and collects specimens.
• Performs quality control checks on equipment.
• Prepares and sterilizes medical equipment using the autoclave.
• Rooms patients and prepares them for examination.
• Records patient care documentation accurately and timely.
• Coordinates patient care as directed by physicians and policies.
• Respects patient confidentiality and provides courteous care.
• Organizes exam/treatment rooms and maintains infection control practices.
• Supports Standard Delegation of Orders (SDO).
• Performs other related duties as assigned.
