Job summary

THOM Thomas Hospitals in Charleston, WV is seeking a Medical Assistant to join our clinical support team. The role involves greeting patients, obtaining vital signs, and preparing exam rooms for physician visits.

You will assist with exams, tests, and procedures, schedule referrals, and educate patients on follow-up expectations. Responsibilities also include documenting medical information, maintaining equipment, and supporting front-office tasks as needed.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent.
• Graduate of a Medical Assistant Program OR one year of experience in a clinical setting.
• Obtain Basic Life Support certification within 30 days of hire.

• Greets and escorts patient to exam rooms; obtains initial information and vital signs.
• Prepares exam rooms for patients with attention to cleanliness and supplies.
• Assists with and/or performs exams, tests, and procedures.
• Schedules appointments and sets up referral contacts as needed.
• Assists provider during patient examinations and procedures.
• Educates patients on follow up expectations.
• Maintains quality control testing logs as required.
• Ensures all medical equipment is in proper working condition.
• Assists patients with completion of medical documentation.
• Assists with office administrative tasks and cash handling.

Performs basic nursing skills, and/or serves under the direction and supervision of the practice physician and/or registered nursing staff.

Minimum Qualifications

Education, Certification, and/or Licensure

• High School Diploma or equivalent.
• Graduate of a Medical Assistant Program OR one (1) year of experience in a clinical setting.
• Obtain certification in Basic Life Support within 30 days of hire date.

Preferred Qualifications

Education, Certification, and/or Licensure

• Completion of healthcare education course work.

Experience

• One (1) year of healthcare experience.

Core Duties and Responsibilities

• Greets and escorts patient to exam rooms; prepares for physician visit by obtaining initial information and vital signs.
• Prepares exam rooms for patients with attention to cleanliness and availability of supplies.
• Assists with and/or performs exams, tests, and procedures.
• Schedules appointments and sets up referral contacts as needed.
• Assists provider during patient examinations and procedures.
• Educates patients on follow up expectations.
• Maintains quality control testing logs as required.
• Ensures all medical equipment is in proper working condition.
• Assists patients with completion of medical documentation.
• Assists with office administrative tasks to include but not limited to answering phones, taking messages, performing office related task (copying, printing, data entry, etc.) and assisting with depositing of cash and other closing duties.
