Qualifications

  • Collect and communicate complete patient information to providers.
  • Respond to phone calls and requests.
  • Escort patients to exam rooms.
  • Ensure availability of X-rays, lab slips, records and information.
  • Obtain vital signs, weight, BP, pulse and temperature.
  • Perform EKGs, injections and/or phlebotomy.
  • Assist providers.
  • Conduct departmental screening, lab tests and specimen collection.
  • Implement quality control standards.
  • Procure medical records and ensure correct patient identification.
  • Add new medications to EMR records.
  • Assemble records per policy.
  • Handle requests for patient information per guidelines.

Job description

  • Respond to phone calls and requests
  • Escort patients to exam rooms
  • Ensure availability of X-rays, lab slips, medical records and other pertinent information
  • Obtain vital signs, weight, blood pressure, pulse and temperature
  • Perform EKGs, injections and/or phlebotomy
  • Assist providers
  • Perform departmental screening, lab tests and specimen collection
  • Implement quality control standards
  • Procure medical records and ensure correct patient identification
  • Add new medications to patient records in the EMR system
  • Assemble records according to BIDHC/APG policy
  • Handle requests for patient information according to established guidelines
Requirements
  • High School diploma or GED required
  • Certificate 1 Medical Assistant Certificate required
  • 1-3 years related work experience required
  • Experience with computer systems required, including web based applications and some Microsoft Office applications, which may include Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint or Access
  • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively in written English
  • Ability to comprehend and converse in English
  • Full working knowledge of standard concepts, practices, procedures and policies
  • Ability to work collaboratively in small teams
  • Ability to provide a high level of customer service
  • Ability to remain calm in stressful situations
  • Competence to provide patient care to neonatal, youth, young adult, middle age and elderly age groups
  • Ability to exert up to 50 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 20 pounds frequently
  • Must be vaccinated against influenza as a condition of employment
