Job Description

Assists in examination and treatment of patients under the direction of a physician.

Responsibilities

1. Maintains patient flow during clinic hours. Documents review of systems; measures vital signs such as pulse rate, respirations, blood pressure, weight, and height. Updates medical, social, and family histories; reviews medications and updates medication lists; records patient information in EMR.
2. Prepares patient charts in EMR, scans, abstracts, reviews diagnostic test results, hospital reports, and ensures all necessary records are in the patient’s chart. Accesses external websites or contacts outside facilities for information. May act as Super User for EMR.
3. Refills medications, pre-authorizes medications, communicates with patients, pharmacies, or insurance as needed. Maintains records of samples and medications, disposes of expired medications. Prepares and maintains clean, stocked exam rooms. Orders supplies and completes patient assistance paperwork.
4. Obtains medical information from patients, returns calls, responds to MyChart messages, manages work queues in EMR/system. Answers calls, schedules appointments, checks in/out patients, and handles pre-certifications.
5. Operates diagnostic equipment such as EKGs and cardiac monitors. Performs clinical duties like phlebotomy and cast removal as assigned.
6. Maintains a safe and confidential environment, adheres to legal and procedural standards, supports quality measures and patient experience.

Qualifications

Knowledge and Skills: High school diploma or equivalent required; Associate Degree and/or Certified/Registered MA preferred. 2-5 years of relevant experience preferred. Proficient in Microsoft Outlook, Excel, EMR, scheduling systems. Strong interpersonal skills required. Ability to travel between offices. Clinical skills like phlebotomy, EKG, stitches removal, splinting are highly preferred.

Licenses & Certifications: Certified/Registered MA preferred, BLS certification required. Must complete skills orientation.
