Job summary

Stanford Health Care is seeking a Medical Assistant II to join the clinic patient care team. This role expands on Medical Assistant I duties with greater scope and independence within guidelines to support patient care coordination.

You will assist physicians, manage the patient portal, process refills, coordinate telemedicine and huddles, train new staff, and ensure Department A3 standards are maintained in a flexible, collaborative environment.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED is required.
  • Medical Assistant Diploma or equivalent training required.
  • 1–3 years of related experience preferred.
  • Proficient computer skills including EHR and MS Office.
  • Current American Heart Association BLS certification required.

Responsibilities

  • Perform all Level I tasks independently.
  • Manage patient portal and inbox messages.
  • Assist physicians with procedures.
  • Assist with referral inquiries and disability paperwork.
  • Process prescription refills and prior authorizations.
  • Coordinate clinic huddles and telemedicine services.
  • Create scribing reports for providers.
  • Train and orient new employees.
  • Assist in maintaining Department A3 standards.
  • Participate in organizational projects as assigned.

Overview

The Medical Assistant II is a member of the clinic patient care team who performs clinical tasks and procedures to support the delivery of care. This role expands on the responsibilities of a Medical Assistant I by acquiring additional job skills and handling assignments of moderate scope and complexity. The position requires independent judgment within defined guidelines to determine appropriate action during patient care coordination.

  • Perform all Level I tasks independently.
  • Manage patient portal and inbox messages.
  • Assist physicians with procedures.
  • Assist with referral inquiries and disability paperwork.
  • Process prescription refills and prior authorizations.
  • Coordinate clinic huddles and assist with telemedicine services.
  • Create scribing reports for providers.
  • Train and orient new employees.
  • Assist in maintaining Department A3 standards.
  • Participate in organizational projects as assigned.
Qualifications
  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Medical Assistant Diploma from an approved school or equivalent documented training.
  • One to three years of related experience.
  • Professional verbal and written communication skills.
  • Proficient computer skills: keyboarding, Microsoft Office, and electronic medical records.
  • Experience with scheduling systems and databases applicable to clinics.
  • Strong organizational and multi-tasking abilities.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a flexible, cooperative manner.
  • Current American Heart Association Basic Life Support for Healthcare Providers certification.
Work Conditions

Physical demands include occasional sitting, constant walking, standing, bending, squatting, and walking on uneven ground. Tasks involve frequent lifting of up to 10 lbs, occasional lifting up to 20 lbs, and occasional lifting up to 30 lbs. Work environments may involve exposure to biohazards such as bloodborne pathogens and hazardous drugs.
