Job description

Join to apply for the Medical Assistant I - Primary Care role at ARUP Laboratories.

Schedule: Monday - Saturday (4-10 hour shifts, variable days), 5:30 AM - 6:00 PM (variable hours). Must be available to work Saturday days (7:30 AM - 5:00 PM).

Training Schedule: Monday - Friday, 4-10 hour day shifts.

Department: ARUP Family Health Clinic - 141.

Primary Purpose: Assists in assessment, examination, and treatment of patients under the direction of a licensed medical provider. Provides safe, efficient, and compassionate patient care.

Essential Functions:

  1. Interact with patients in a friendly, courteous, and professional manner.
  2. Assist medical providers with exams, treatments, and minor procedures.
  3. Manage patient questionnaires, update medical records, reconcile information, and complete pre-visit planning.
  4. Prepare exam and procedure rooms for patient care.
  5. Prepare patients for visits, including taking vital signs and recording medical history.
  6. Conduct patient assessments within scope of practice.
  7. Administer vaccines and injectable medications.
  8. Provide patient education within training and scope of practice.
  9. Handle medication refills, paperwork, referrals, and records requests.
  10. Schedule appointments and respond to patient inquiries via phone and portal.
  11. Collect specimens and perform point-of-care testing.
  12. Restock supplies, clean exam rooms, and maintain equipment.
  13. Participate in team meetings and other work groups.
  14. Perform receptionist duties as needed.
  15. Follow ARUP policies, HIPAA, and regulatory requirements.
  16. Other duties as assigned.

Physical and Other Requirements:

  • Stooping, reaching, mobility, communication, PPE use, adherence to policies, medium work exertion, fine motor control, and visual acuity.

Qualifications:

Education: High School Diploma or Equivalent or better.

Experience: Required: Current BLS certification or within 90 days of hire. Preferred: Medical Assistant certification, EMT or CNA certification, knowledge of medical terminology, outpatient clinic experience, two years in healthcare.

Licenses & Certifications: Preferred: Applic Professional Cert.
