Qualifications

Job Summary

The South Main Clinic at the University of Utah School of Medicine has an immediate opening for a Medical Assistant that shares our vision and passion for caring for children and their families. The Medical Assistant plays a critical role in facilitating the efficient delivery of patient care, supporting the professional role of the licensed staff, and providing support and assistance as directed by licensed staff in rendering basic healthcare to patients.

Additional responsibilities include clerical functions, data tracking, and report completion. This position is located at the Department of Pediatrics South Main Clinic on 3690 South Main Street, Salt Lake City, Utah.

This position is full-time, 40 hours per week. Regular and punctual attendance is required.

Responsibilities
Essential Functions
  • Preparing patients for examinations and diagnostic procedures, recording vital signs, and medical history responses.
  • Completing patient admission or registration, reviewing accounts, and obtaining missing information.
  • Reporting patient concerns and changes in condition to licensed staff.
  • Scheduling and rescheduling patient appointments, reminders.
  • Performing CLIA-waived lab tests and reporting results.
  • Performing specialty skills such as suture removal, catheterization, and injections.
  • May perform phlebotomy as per clinic procedures.
  • Acting as a chaperone and assisting with procedures.
  • Monitoring and cleaning examination rooms and equipment.
  • Answering phones, scheduling, filing, and other clerical tasks.
  • Attending mandatory in-services and training.
  • May assist with diagnostic procedures like EKG or ultrasound under supervision.
  • Providing educational material and health information to patients and families.
Disclaimer

This job involves exposure to potentially dangerous bodily fluids, needles, and other hazards. Physical demands include standing for long periods, moving patients, and handling equipment. The position requires knowledge of lifespan development and the ability to provide age-appropriate care. All employees must meet immunization requirements per CDC standards and hospital policy.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Current RQI Healthcare Provider eCredential (to be obtained within 30 days of hire)
  • Completion of one of the following: state-approved EMT course, 1 year of Medical Assistant experience, accredited Medical Assisting program, or University Hospital Medical Assistant certification.
Preferences
  • Fluency in Spanish.
  • Two years of related pediatric or primary care experience.
  • Strong computer and multitasking skills.
  • Completion of an accredited Medical Assisting Program or EMT.
