Job summary

Griffin Health in Derby, Connecticut is seeking a Medical Office Assistant to support patient care and administrative duties. You will organize patient flow, prepare exam rooms, and accompany patients to exam rooms.

Responsibilities include documenting patient history, charting, collecting specimens, relaying instructions, and assisting patients as needed. Prior authorizations, referrals, and EMR use are key parts of the role.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED; related diploma preferred.
• Experience in a surgical office is strongly preferred.
• Experience with electronic medical records is required.

• Document patient history, charting, collect specimens, relay instructions.
• Screen patients: document history, med reconciliation, obtain vitals; assist doctor.
• Assist office coordinator with phones, scheduling, and admin tasks.
• Manage/update patient records; handle referrals and prior authorizations.
• Maintain inventory of clinical equipment and supplies; restock as needed.
• Obtain prior authorizations and book surgeries as needed.

MAIN FUNCTION:

• Fulfills patient care responsibilities as assigned, including organizing patient flow, preparing exam rooms, accompanying patients to exam rooms.
• Documents patient history, charting, collecting specimens, relaying instructions to patients, and assisting patients as necessary.
• Performs patient screening, including documenting patient history, performing medication reconciliation and obtaining vitals.
  Assists doctor with physical exam and office procedures as necessary.
• Assists office coordinator with answering phones, scheduling appointments, and other administrative duties as needed.
• Manages and updates patient medical records, manages referrals and prior authorizations.
• Maintains inventory of clinical equipment and supplies, including ordering and restocking when necessary.
• Obtain prior authorizations and book surgeries as needed.

EDUCATION:

High School Diploma or GED. Graduate of recognized Medical Assistant/ Medical Office Assistant diploma program preferred.

EXPERIENCE:

• Experience working in a surgical office strongly preferred.
• Must possess strong customer service skills and must be able to multi-task.
• Experience with electronic medical records is required.
